News and Notes for the week of April 11, 2018

Message from the Health Office:
An updated Physical Exam is required for ALL 8th grade students transitioning to high school and ALL student athletes.
Please be sure to submit a Physical Exam report as soon as possible if you have not already done so this school year. Physical Exams are considered current within 13 months of the exam date. It is best to submit them to the school nurse at the time of the exam to keep your child's school health record  up to date and accurate. All health records will transition with your child to the high school.

7th -to- 8th Grade Course selection:
GMS PowerSchool portal will be open from Monday April 23 - Thursday April 26 for parents of rising 8th graders, class of 2023, to log-in and confirm their child’s Math, Foreign Language and or Music Ensemble courses for next year. More detailed information to follow, regarding math placement, summer testing and waiver process.

Gibbons Track Team:
PLEASE NOTE: Due to safety and supervision concerns, the Gibbons Track Team will be limited to 75 athletes. Signups will be on a first come first serve basis. Students who tryout for baseball and softball but are not placed on our baseball or softball teams and wish to participate in track will be provided a spot on the track team.

Cradles to Crayons:
This is the last week for the annual Spring Greening Clothing Drive. It will be going on until Friday April 6th. For more information please see the flyer below.

GMS Spring Musical:
“Shrek Jr.”, is this weekend; admission is $8.00 for students and $10 for adults, no charge for Seniors Citizens. Dates are 
4/6 and 4/7 at 7pm in the Gibbons Auditorium. As well as 4/8 at 2pm same location.

Charlotte Spinney Vision Scholarship Award is a scholarship that was established to honor the commitment and influence Charlotte Spinney had on her students. Each year, the Charlotte Spinney Vision Scholarship Award is given to deserving seventh graders who show potential. String Fest:
The String Fest concert is tonight Monday, March 19 at 7:00pm in the WHS auditorium. Admission is FREE!! This performance features all of our orchestra students in grades 5-12 and is a great way to see how our students progress through their years in Westboroughs string program. Hope to see you there!

This years Women in STEM Conference will be held on Saturday March 24th, 2018 at Algonquin Regional High School, Northborough, MA from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Please Click Here to see the flyer for more information.

Gibbons:
Due to last Wednesday’s  storm, the School Budget Parent and Community Meeting was rescheduled to Monday, March 12th at 7 pm in the Mill Pond School Auditorium. This is an important meeting where we will provide updates on the school budget and answer your questions.  We will also provide an overview of two articles that will be coming before Town Meeting on March 17th. We hope you will mark the rescheduled date on your calendar.
Our 8th grade English students and teachers will be working with local poet, Alex Charalambides, during the week of March 12 - 16, including a kickoff ‘poetry slam’ on March 9th

Concerns about the flu are rising and parents are beginning to ask what we are doing about it. Flu vaccines continue to be recommended and good hand washing, as well as covering coughs and sneezes remain the best measures for the prevention of the spread of infection. Children should be kept at home when they are ill. For more information about the flu please use the link below.

Gibbons Track Team:
The Gibbons Middle School Track Team will have an informational meeting for all students interested in being on the team Tuesday, March 6th  in the cafeteria.  The meeting will run from 2:10 to approximately 2:30.  This year’s schedule of meets and practices will be handed out as well as team expectations for the season. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and find out what the track team is about.   All those interested should make every attempt to attend
