Gibbons:
Gibbons Middle School is embarking on a special project, an all school voluntary book club called Between the Pages, our first selection is, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high-school-aged girl who is transported on an adventure through time and space with her younger brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin O'Keefe to rescue her father, a gifted scientist, from the evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet.

Intramural Volleyball:
Sign ups are now open for Intramural Volleyball until February 2nd.  Any sign up after February 2nd will not be accepted. If you have questions you may email or see Ms. Robichaud sometime during the school day. Sign up Here!!

WHS:
The Teen Advisory Board and the Cooking Club at Westborough High School are collaborating together to host a fun "Solve The Mystery" event at the Westborough High School on the 26th of January, 2018 from 6-8pm. This event will welcome 30 students from grades 6-8. Sign uphere!

Gibbons:

Important clarification:
The scheduled early release for January 12 is for students in K-6 grades only, it will be a regular school day for students in grades 7-12.

Important clarification:
The scheduled early release for January 12 is for students in K-6 grades only, it will be a regular school day for students in grades 7-12.

Message from Mrs. Brigham, GMS School Nurse:
Scoliosis screenings will be conducted on all 7th and 8th graders during PE class time 11/14-11/20. This screening identifies students with potential spinal abnormalities which may require further medical evaluation. Screenings will be conducted privately. All students are required to remove their shirts for this screening. Female students are permitted to wear a bra, sports bra, or cami during the screenings. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Take Action Week: 
This is a Soap and Hygiene Product Drive that will last until Nov. 17th. These donations will be given to the New England Farm Workers Council which is a Massachusetts organization under the Partners for Community umbrella which provides resources and services to migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families.

This is an Annual school and community fundraising event promoting health and fitness. Open to the public. GMS Girls Basketball: 

GMS Girls Basketball is starting up soon. Any Girls interested in playing for the GMS Basketball  Team should meet in Mr. Hanson's Room, Room 26 immediately after school on Monday November 13.

This years Trivia Bee will be on Monday November 6, 2017 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 6:30pm.  Watch teachers, community members and parents test their trivia knowledge as they compete for the trivia trophy!  All proceeds benefit the Westborough Education Foundation.

UNICEF(United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund): 
The Gibbons Community Service Club will be working to encourage students to “Trick or Treat” for UNICEF.  Homeroom teachers will be handing out boxes by Tuesday, October 31th.  These can be used to collect spare change while trick-or-treating.  Please encourage your children to collect money (and more importantly to turn it in.) If you would like to learn more about UNICEF please click here.

Gibbons Fall Fundraiser: 
Spectacular effort this year!!!!! All together we helped raise $14,130 of which 40% stays at Gibbons to help with enrichment activities, class trips, and teachers requests. We also collected $670 in donations and would love to give a special thanks to our volunteers who were a tremendous help.

The Westborough Turkey Trot will be Saturday November 18, 2017, 9am at Westborough High School. Family friendly, 5K, Run, Walk or Trot and there is also a 10am Kids' Fun Run. This is an Annual school and community fundraising event promoting health and fitness. Open to the public. Please sign up HERE!

GMS Chorus: 
The Choral Collage Concert and Sing is Wednesday, October 25th at 5:30pm and at 7pm in the high school auditorium. It will be featuring the GMS Chorus who have been practicing very hard.

I would like to thank the students and staff of Gibbons Middle School for an exceptionally smooth beginning to the school year. Teachers and students have quickly hit their stride and adapting to the new routines of the new school year. I am equally pleased to congratulate our staff and construction team on the successful ‘substantial’ completion of our renovation project. Our students and staff have regularly remarked at how bright, clean and impressive the renovated school looks. Please be sure to join us during our annual Open House evenings to see our facility. Open House dates are as follows:

First Day Information:
First day forms are now in the Parent Portal! To make completing the annual contact information, health information, and sign-off forms more efficient and user friendly we are now using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please log in to the Parent Portal and complete all forms for all students using these directions. Should you have any questions or require assistance please contact your child's school. 

Gibbons 1:1 Chromebook Distribution:
If you could not attend any of the distribution sessions at the high school and do not yet have your chromebook, please go to the Technology Office to retrieve your chromebook and paperwork.

Fall Sports:

Cross Country:
We plan to hold an informational meeting for Cross Country (sign-up info, forms etc) on Wednesday September 6th at 2:05-2:30 in room 31.  Unfortunately there is no late bus on that day so students will need to have a ride home.  Students can sign-up ahead of time here on Family ID.

Final Report Cards:
Final Gibbons Middle School Report Cards will be released Thursday afternoon at 3:00pm.

Important Summer Construction Information
-Beginning next Wednesday afternoon, our Main Office and phone system will be temporarily shut down as the office will be temporarily moved to the library for the summer and the phone system is removed and replaced.
-Email will be the best means of communication with GMS staff until July 6th when our phone system is expected to have been reconfigured.
-Similar to last summer the school’s driveway will be fenced off during construction hours
-Additionally, the entrances to on the front side of GMS will be fenced off due to scheduled demolition work.
-Access to our building / temp main office will be via the fire lane behind the 7th grade wing. Temporary parking will be established outside of our library, the side door of the library will be used as the public access to GMS for the summer.
-It is my understanding that Franklin St. will again be open for two way traffic over the summer, subject to town approval.

Mr. Nash and I would like to thanks the students, parents, faculty and staff of Gibbons Middle School for a great year! We hope everyone in our school community has a safe and relaxing summer and we look forward to the 2017-2018 school year.

As a quick Reminder: 
There is No Plan To End School Early For Gibbons Middle School due to construction. Our last day is Scheduled to be Wednesday, June 21st which is also a half day.

Please be sure to bring in your Chromebooks, Chargers and any cases on the day your team is scheduled to return technology. We will give receipts the following day after collection. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, June 12 -- Red Team
Tuesday, June 13 -- Orange Team
Wednesday, June 14 -- Blue and Maroon Grade 8 Teams
Thursday, June 15 -- Green Team
Friday, June 16 -- Purple Team

Reminder from Mr. Nash: regarding afternoon buses As the days are longer and warmer we often are presented with requests from students to visit friends after school and ride different buses. Please remember that we will only honor requests to change buses, for one day, if we have a signed note from the student’s parents and there is room on the bus for an extra student.

An updated Physical Exam is required for all 8th graders prior to transitioning to high school. Please be sure to submit a Physical Exam report as soon as possible if you have not already done so this school year. Physical Exams are considered current within 13 months of the exam date.
