Prior
to the start of each class, students at Gibbons work to improve their
fitness. This work includes a dynamic warmup (cardio and dynamic stretching) and functional fitness exercises. The exercises chosen for this workout aid the students in
injury prevention, cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscle
endurance, flexibility, agility, speed & power. This workout is
individualized in that students are able to select the difficulty level
for each exercise (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). Examples of
functional fitness activities include squats, lunges, TRX exercises,
Medicine Balls, Jump Rope, Battle Ropes, and many more! Below are a few pictures featured on the @gibbons_sports instagram page.

Students
at Gibbons participate in the Fitness Lab periodically during the
year. This part of our program provides students with the opportunity
to learn how to utilize a fitness center safely and effectively. The
fitness lab consists of concept 2 rowers, fan & spin bikes, treadmills, stair
steppers, exercise mats, and strength training machines. Students
record performance results on a workout card that they keep for both
years at Gibbons. Other important features of the lab include practice
with personal goal setting and determining resting, target, and working
heart rates.
